Self Care Sunday: My Morning Rituals

I am happy to report that I have survived my surgery (although I had no doubts). The recovery has gone pretty well with only a few set backs along the way. I will be posting a surgery update soon. To get more frequent updates on my surgery/life follow me on my instagram @gutsyfeeling. Thank you for everyone positivity and support through this particularly difficult time. Anyhow, back to today’s topic of choice.

Mornings can be hard for everyone. But, once you start to relish in the still morning air, you will soon start to love mornings just as much as I do. Now I’m not saying I love to get up in the morning, quite the opposite in fact. However, once I do manage to get up, I am so glad that I left my self time for my morning rituals.

There is something about getting up early, before the world has started that makes me feel calm and at peace. But don’t worry, you can still have morning rituals and wake up at 9am, but for me I start my day at 6am. This time was partially selected because I am currently doing an internship which starts at 8am. Otherwise, I would probably be rising at 7am, but a girls got to do, what a girls got to do.  None the less, my rituals have become sacred for me because I love to have time for myself in the morning to start my day off with intention.

After doing my night rituals I decided that it only felt right to tell you all about my morning rituals. So here is a list of things that I will do everyday without fail.

1. Wake Up and Drink Water

Throughout the night we become dehydrated, so it is very important that when you wake up you take the time to hydrate.  I start my day off wit just a simple glass of water, this really helps to wake me up.

2. Meditate

Before I start scrolling or interact with others I am sure to set aside 5 minutes to meditate. Typically I will meditate for 5 minutes and then take another couple minutes to go through my mantras. This year I have used 3 key words as my mantras, and these help to focus my thoughts and intentions right in the morning. This is a great way to start the day and to ensure that even if all goes wrong that day, you had 5 minutes to yourself.

3. Get Moving

After my meditation I will always do some form of movement for the day. Whether that be an intense yoga session, a HIIT workout, or a nice gentle walk, I make sure to always move. As I have previously mentioned in my Pain Management post, moving helps me deal with my physical pain. So, starting off the day with some movement helps to ensure that I start my digestive system, plus it helps to wake you up. So no matter what it is you do, do something in the morning, even if it’s only for few minutes.

4. Eat Breakfast

Not everyone loves to eat breakfast in the morning, but I personally need to eat breakfast every day. For one, I feel like a zombie if I don’t and secondly, I also need to get something in my stomach to start up my digestive system. So, fuel your body and eat some breakfast. I personally love having a smoothie in the morning, and this also has been very easy for me since I have been on a low-residue diet. (Read more about that in my previous post)

5. Drink Tea

I know that this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea (I couldn’t help myself, lol). But starting your day off with a warm mug of happiness is always the way to go. Whether you are an avid coffee or tea drinker, start your day with something you love and enjoy.

6. Learn Something New & Get Inspired

Every morning while I am doing my makeup I try to listen to an inspirational podcast or watch one of my favorite content creators. This is a great way to get inspired and/or learn something new while multi-tasking. For you this may mean watching a funny video, learning a new style of budgeting on Youtube, or watching one of the hundreds of TED Talks. But, whatever it is try to do something to jump start your brain in the morning.

I hope that you enjoyed a little peek into my morning routine, and have gained some inspiration on how to mix up your routine if you have been feeling bleh. So remember to get up early, start your day on a positive note, and you will be amazed at how this positivity will stay with you throughout your day.

Rise and Shine.

Lots of love,

your trusty, gusty, gal
