Today I will be sharing with you all my average night routine. This has been highly requested so I am so glad to be sharing it with you today. I am so excited, to announce that this post is sponsored by my friends over at Smile Brilliant. They offer incredibly easy at home teeth whitening that I will share more about later in the post. So, without further ado, lets hop right into it.
1. Prep for the Next Morning
After I get home for the day and eat my dinner, I will always work on prepping for the next morning. It is important to remember that in order to feel ready and prepared for sleep you have to have all your ducks in a row for the next morning. This means picking out your outfit, packing your lunch, setting your travel mug out for the morning, making sure the dishes are done, etc, etc, etc. Whatever you need to do to make your morning easier, do it.
2. Get Off Electronics An Hour Before Bed
I know that this isn’t always possible, and sometimes you have to text some people back, finish up a paper, or need to use technology until later in the day. But, at all costs try to reduce the amount of time you are staring at the screen. I personally will have my phone next to me until about an hour before I sleep in case someone texts me, but I will try not to go on social media, or scroll in the hour before bed. However, if it is not possible for you to turn off electronics before bed, try using a blue light app on your phone and computer. This will help to set you up better for sleep.
3. Shower, Pamper & Teeth Whitening
There is nothing like a warm shower (or bath) before bed, am I right? So, before bed every night I make sure to shower and clean off my body. If I am feeling fancy, I will use a nice homemade body scrub, or some luxurious body butter. But, for the most part I keep it really simple.
Once, I am out of the shower, it is time for teeth whitening. I started using Smile Brilliant two months ago after they reached out to me to do a collaboration, and let me tell you, it is extremely easy, affordable, and effective!
So, today I want to share with you all my honest review of the product and how much I loved it. In addition, I am going to share with you how EASY it was to do this at home teeth whitening.
Why I Whiten My Teeth
I started whitening my teeth to gain more confidence in my smile, but without having to give up the food and drinks I love. I am a HUGE TEA DRINKER. I drink tea multiple times a day, and although it is not as staining as coffee, it still leaves significant stains on your teeth. I also love to eat berries and all of the yummy foods that just so happen to stain your teeth over time. In addition, I want to share that I have never had braces and I DO HAVE SENSITIVE TEETH. (Spoiler: it did not make my teeth more sensitive)
Making Your Custom Trays
Smile Brilliant uses trays, which is a safer and more effective way of doing stain removal. Unlike the strips and gels, which often remove the enamel from your teeth in a very harsh way. Smile Brilliants trays are custom made just for YOU. So, you don’t have to worry about them not fitting or being uncomfortable.
The process of making your trays is very easy and effortless. When you receive your package at home from Smile Brilliant you will receive a kit to make your custom molds. It was very easy and they provide you with incredible instructions to make sure you are doing it right.
Once, that is done you ship them off in the prepaid packing slip and you are on your way. Unfortunately, the prepaid packing slip only works in America, so I had to pay a small shipping cost to send them back (it was under $10).
When the company gets your molds they make you your custom trays and ship them back to you within 3-5 days. Now, you have your custom trays and are ready to whiten.
Whitening Application
I have sensitive teeth, so I use the SENSITIVE SYSTEM and was advised to only whiten my teeth for an hour the first few times to ensure I don’t have extreme sensitivity. I found that this worked perfectly for me. So, I did teeth whitening every other day for about an hour each time.
Following the teeth whitening it is extremely important to use the desensitizing gel, if you are using the sensitive system. This made a big difference with the sensitivity of my teeth and this is also why I did my teeth whitening at night. I put a thin layer of the whitening gel on the tray and apply for an hour. Then I follow it up with the desensitizing gel for 30 minutes. By, this point it was time for bed, so I would remove my trays, spit out any excess desensitizing gel and let the rest sit on my teeth over night.
By doing the teeth whitening at night, it allowed for the longest amount of time before consuming food again. But, you can do it any time of day, just wait at least an hour before eating after your treatment.
So, my overall thoughts on this product…
- I really loved it and it was extremely effective and easy.
- It did not make my teeth more sensitive.
- It has safe, vegan, ingredients which is really important to me.
- It is extremely cost effective, starting at only $149 for 3 gels AND the custom trays. (Each tube of gel lasted me 4-5 applications)
- It gave me greater confidence in my smile! I no longer have to worry about stains from my tea on my teeth.

4. Get into Bed Early
You should always leave yourself a minimum of 30 minutes to an hour in bed before you plan on closing your eyes to sleep. In this time you can go through your night time routine to prepare for sleep. This is the time where you will adapt and put in all your night rituals. So, try to put your phone away on charge, on the other side of the room, or in another room if you’re brave, and get into bed to begin your nightly rituals.
5. Prep Your Room For Sleep
Close your blinds, take all your hundreds pillows off your bed, grab a glass of water for your bedside, and do anything else that feels right. I personally I always diffuse lavender essential oil, along with another blend depending on my mood. Sometimes I will add Immune essential oil to boost my immune system, other times I will add Serenity essential oils to support sleep (both from Saje Wellness). All of these little steps will help me to start my night routine.
6. Clear Your Mind & Reflect
To begin to wind down I like to journal, which I do while going about my teeth whitening routine. I have two journals that I use every night. The first journal is a worry journal, and I started this practice back when I was 12. In this journal I will write down anything that I can think of that is worrying me. Most nights it is the same worries over and over again, but it always seems to work to leave my brain a little clearer.
During this ritual I will sometimes remember things I need to remember in the morning. So, I will write these on a separate sheet, rip it out of the journal, and leave it on my night stand for the next morning. This way I don’t have to worry about remembering it for the next morning.
My second journal is my gratitude and end of day review. In this journal I will write 5 to 10 things I am grateful for from that day, and I will also brain dump some thoughts from that day. Writing in two journals may seem extensive, but for me it helps me to be able to recap, and monitor my mood, while also ending my day with some gratitude and positivity. Your journaling practice may look a little different, but I highly encourage you to at minimum write out your worries and what you are grateful for every day.
7. Tap Into Your Spirituality
After my journaling I will typically do some meditation and prayer. Your spirituality may involve different things, it may be solely meditation or prayer, it may include crystals or tarot cards. No matter what it is, use 10-15 minutes of your night routine to work on your spirituality. Send good vibes into the universe and they will come back to you.
8. Read
At this point I am usually pretty tired, and I will pick up my book and try to read some of my book before my eyes close. However, this step is important for me because if I am not particularly tired that night it will help me to drift off. I try to read something light and nothing too gripping.
Before my reading time, I typically will take the time to remove my teeth whitening trays which contain the desensitizing gel. That way I am ready for bed and don’t have to worry about it before I drift off to sleep.
By doing my teeth whitening at night, the desensitizing gel can sit on my teeth all night while I sleep. This helps to reduce sensitivity of teeth and also extend the whitening lasting time because I am not re-staining my teeth until morning.
I hope you enjoyed this night time routine and product routine all rolled into one. Thank you again to Smile Brilliant for sponsoring today’s post! Make sure you head over to Instagram to enter the giveaway!
